Five years ago, Lex Luther (Smallville) started developing the small town of White Oak on the coast of Virginia. It was at first, a business venture with Alec Rybek (The Lying Game). It soon turned into a pet project of sorts. The land was rich with history and secrets, both neither man has ever been known to take lightly.
They built White Oak Academy and, with the Luthor fortune, it quickly became one of the most prestigious schools in the country. Lex and Alec made sure it was stocked with the best athletes and the smartest students, giving out scholarships whenever necessary.
Money turned out to not be the point of this endevor, afterall. Social hierachy, knowledge of the unknown, and success were more important. Lex has spared no expense and has even started his own town council, led by Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries). It is at the top of the pyramid when it comes to the secrets of this town and they know everything.
White Oak Academy is known by all species as a place of peace, and to the supernatural, it is known for it's history of magic.
The Originals have been brought here because as the town name tells us, there is a white oak here. Or there was once upon a time. Now it is hidden, and many are searching to find it first. Witches come seeking power from their dead ancestors. Back when the Witch Trials were going on, this area was a sanctuary to witches. The graves on the edge of town are proof of their existance and beliefs.
Werewolves like the woods that surround the school, and some have come in search of Niklaus (The Vampire Diaries) based on the rumors of the "Original Hybrid." Humans come to get away from their parents, to spend their high school years getting into trouble at a posh school minutes from the beach. Getting a scholarship at the end of their senior year is just a bonus.
