Ophelia had always liked Kimberly. She was a sweet girl, a funny girl. She didn't seem to mind how loony Ophelia was, and always enjoyed Ophelia's rather different point of view. She liked to hear about Ophelia's stories and read her writing and look at her eccentric paintings.
Kimberly was talented and kind. She always helped people when she got the chance, and she always spent a lot of time with Ophelia.
Ophelia found herself falling in love with her, which was odd, because Ophelia had only ever liked boys. But there was something about Kimberly.
Ralph Podmore was a nice guy, and he was kind, as well. Maybe not as talented as Kimberly, but not everyone could be that brilliant. Ophelia never had a problem with him before, but when he and Kimberly started dating she found the green monster of jealousy leap up inside her.
Kimberly seems to have less and less time for her these days. Ophelia is clawing desperately for even just a friendship with her former best friend.
"There must be something about this name," she sighed one day to Kimberly.
"What?"
"Ophelia it must mean nothing sweet for me but tragedy."
