1. No plagiarizing. This should be self-explanatory, but this means do not copy and paste something into your profile or posts that aren't your own words. Not only is it rude and tacky, but it's against the law.
2. This is an intermediate-advanced role-play site so proper grammar and spelling are a must. A spelling or grammatical error or two is okay, since we're all human, but you shouldn't continuously misspell things or confuse tenses in a post.
3. Your character can be bilingual, but please remember that not everyone can speak or read French; German, Spanish, etc. So please provide translation if needed, and make sure if your character can speak another language it makes sense. For example, if your character has lived in Japan most of their life and was fluent in Portugese; that wouldn't make much sense.
4. Cursing is fine, but please keep it to a minimum. Cursing every few words in a post doesn't make you sound cool — it sounds stupid and can totally turn people off from posting with you. So please don't have your character cursing like a pirate.
5. This site is PG-13 to comply with proboards TOS. This means no mature material is allowed. Sure, we know your character may not be a virgin, but there is no need for trashy posts. There are other ways to have fun in roleplays.
6. Your character's name (if not a canon character) must be completely original and not the name of the actor or actress that you use to portray said character.
7. As far as images in icons and signatures go — please have them clothed. No nude photos will be allowed. Be tasteful. As far as the dimensions of said images, icons shouldn't exceed 100 x 100 and signatures shouldn't exceed 600 x 300.
secret word to insert somewhere in profile: NITWIT!
8. Originals are accepted, however, one must bear in mind no matter how much you treasure your original characters and their vast families they are by no means as important or more important than the established canon. the first word is: Draco The canons are always going to be more important, no offense, and trying to build your character up to the canon status is just Mary Sueish not to mention makes you seem like you're arrogant enough to believe that your character is good enough to be part of Rowling's realm. Seriously, let's not go there. Your family was not a family of royal vampires, important werewolves, or attacked personally by Voldemort unless established so in the books or as part of the site plot or subplots. Do not make your characters seem more important than they really are because it gets really annoying, really fast and I've seen this problem on one of the rps I'm on now. So I thought it was worth mentioning.
For example for originals I do not want to see things like this: She is part of the very large, dark, and powerful Romanian family. That is most unacceptable.
This would be acceptable: She is part of the very large and dark Romanian family that perceives themselves as powerful.
Because a family can perceive themselves as powerful without being powerful. The first example is Mary-Sueish because it assumes that everyone knows of that family and given that the family is original, that is unacceptable. Hope that clarifies things for you.
9. We are not accepting original Death Eater females, ever. So please don’t ask. The reason for this is DE’s are elitists and I’ve seen way too many Sue female DE's.
10. Please try to avoid making all bisexual or gay characters. I realize one or two out of four or five charries, but please don't have five gay/bisexual characters. I have nothing against people that are like this, I honestly have friends that are, however, most of the time I find it's a bunch of gay guys and a ton of straight girls and that just doesn't work out well per ratio. So please, try not to do this. If you feel you must please pm me and we'll discuss it. I really rather avoid it, if at all possible.
11. No special abilities for your character unless you pm Linders (again, that's me), unless it's Canon. Otherwise if you put it in your application, I will make you edit it out and your character will have no special abilities. Bear in mind that not everyone in the Wizarding World has one, so don't feel obligated to make a bunch of characters that do, because we're rarely going to allow this and it just makes you look like a special powers hog.
In fact, your characters may not have more than 3 abilities (if on our canon listing) or 2 abilities (for any originals), and only one or two of your characters can have special abilities. So please choose wisely.
12. No Mary-Sue's or Gary-Stu's. I'm sure you've come across this, you know, the girl that's ultra slutty but also very smart and seemingly innocent or the guy that's really great at everything he does and never makes a mistake ever, etc.
Chances are your character is Mary-Sue if...
+ Everyone loves them
+ Only beautiful people fall in love with them, rape them, etc.
+ All members of the opposite and even same sex fall for them because they are so gorgeous.
+ They have no scars or physical flaws.
+ They have no personality flaws.
+ Their history was really perfect, or really tragic without it being Canon.
+ If your character is an original, the Dark Lord attacking their family and killing them for any reason. Come now, if your character is an original, they do not hold that much sway in the Order or the Wizarding World.
+ They are absolutely pure or feindishly evil, with no remorse or pain at anything that happens. [w/o being Canon or a Canon character taken out of context]
+ They have more than three special powers, and more than two if they are from an original family.
+ They can dodge every curse or hex aimed at them, but their hexes never miss their target.
+ They are a good Slytherin, evil Gryffindor, evil Hufflepuff, or evil Ravenclaw without there being any explanation for it. IF they were from a DE family or an order family that would explain it, or if they grew up and learned about whatever side they support and thought that the other side was wrong. No one, however, is just good or evil at the drop of a hat.
+ They never make a mistake.
+ They have surnames like Hellsing, Cromwell, etc. or if their first names are made-up names or rather unique spellings of already established names such as Tanya or Tonia for Tania, or Loralie instead of Lorelei. Or if they have similar or the same names as actual celebrities.
+ They have similar or exact names to Canon characters, yet are originals.
+ Their whole family is good, yet they happen to be the only evil one in their family and there is really no good explanation for it, at all.
+ Your character is an original yet is attractive enough to catch the eye of a important Canon such as Rodolphus, Severus, Remus, Lucius, Harry Potter, Hermione Weasley, Luna Potter, Ginny Thomas, Bellatrix, etc.
+ Your character is an original but is not only rich, influential, a potions genius, an over-all genius, and French but is forced to marry an important member of wizarding society b/c their father is an abusive and controlling git.
+ They are seers that know when everything is going to happen are very beautiful, but can't forecast when someone is going to rape them. Get real, seers do not see everything nor would they get raped by every character that you obsess over.
- There are other examples, but I think you get the picture of what we expect and what we don't expect here.
13. After every two females you make, you must make a male character. This is so the site doesn't get flooded with too many femme characters.
14. Please try to make characters in different factions, and not just stick to making all good/all evil characters. It's nice to have a mix so there can be fray's and plot development.
15. There is no limit on how many characters you can have, but please be reasonable. It's hard to keep canon with 10+ characters.
16. Keep Canon's canon! I understand it may be difficult since this rp is very AU, but try your best. Voldemort and Severus shouldn't be softies, and James Potter shouldn't be Travers best friend, etc.
17. Do not create originals to split up marriages. Your OC will not end up with Lucius, Sirius, Remus, James, Bellatrix, etc. Marriages in the Wizarding World are partnerships for life. There is no such thing as divorce in their realm.
18. Please be realistic in eye/hair color, too. Most people shouldn't be running around with green hair and red eyes. Most people should have blue, brown, grey, green, or hazel eyes and/or blonde, brown, black, or red hair. Wizards shouldn't be dying their hair unless they come from muggle families, and even then it's iffy. I think the Wizarding World is against it for the most part unless you're a Metamorphagus or you're from a rock band.
19. As far as posts go we have a four post minimum which should be upheld. There's no maximum post limit, but please bear in mind that not everyone would like replying to a 20 + pararagraph post. (Yes, I actually rped with soemone who did that, and it was exhausting.)
20. Respect all other members no matter your standing. No sexism, racism, or harrassment of any kind will be tolerated. I understand you may not like everyone — but there's no reason that we can't all be civil.
& Don't be super cliquey, either. People do reject and leave sites simply because of cliques. I know I've done it myself. Be friendly to everyone, please. ^_^
21. No super human characters, please. No demons, elves, dwarves, etc. This isn't Supernatural or Lord of the Rings. There are vampire/werewolf characters avaliable, but these should not be the norm on this site. It is HARRY POTTER not Twilight, Buffy, or True Blood.
22. There are no reservations on the canon listing so get that app up as soon as possible!
23. Please remain active especially if you're a canon! There's nothing more frustrating than get all excited, making plots, and then never being able to post.
24. Once inactive, characters are up for grabs again. If they're not canon, they're simply shipped to the character graveyard. However, in both cases you must REAPPLY all over again.
25. Do not post anywhere until your application has been accepted!
26. Last but certainly not least, HAVE FUN!
